No Odisha Tableau in Republic Day Parade 2019

A huge disappointment for the people of Odisha as Odisha will not have any State tableau displayed in the upcoming Republic Day parade in New Delhi. The same thing also happened in last year Republic Day parade. According to news and reports, this setback came after the Ministry of Defence rejected the State’s all four designs, including one portraying the Paika Rebellion. the reports also said other than the Paika Rebellion design, a design was also prepared to depict Brahmapur’s famous Thakurani Yatra.
The Thakurani Yatra was initially appreciated by the jury members but later it was rejected. “Generally, the Defence Ministry selects around 13 to 14 tableaus every year to participate in the Republic Day parade.
Odisha’s tableau might have been rejected as it was selected for the two consecutive years,” said an official of the State Information and Public Relations Department. Fourteen states have received approval from the Defence Ministry for their tableaus whereas Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Kerala tableaus have been disapproved.
