The Festive is one of the biggest festivals of the State. The beauty of the eve is mostly witnessed in villages of Odisha where the day starts with cleaning the house with broom-sticks, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi would never visit the house if the house is dirty and untidy.

On this day, women clean their homes and create intricate designs known as ‘jhoti’ or ‘chita’ using rice paste and colors at the entrance of their houses. These designs are believed to invite Goddess Lakshmi into their homes and bring good fortune. The women also prepare special delicacies made from newly harvested rice, such as ‘pitha’ (rice cakes) and offer them to the goddess.
