Western Odisha has geared up for its biggest festival of the year Nuakhai on 23 August 2020. This was announced after the Brahmapura temple pandit mandali finalized the Lagna for the Nuakhai. According to rituals, the new rice or the Nabanna will be offered to Goddess Samaleswari between 8.10 am to 8.40 am on that day. People celebrate the festival with family members, relatives, and friends with offering delicious dishes and food items.

The Lagna for the festival is decided on the next day of Janmashtami by the Brahmamandap Pandit Mahasabha in Sambalpur every year.

Nuakhai is celebrated for years with great pump & show in western Odisha districts of Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Boudh in order to welcome the new paddy crop. Before the festival was restricted to western Odisha but now the festival is celebrated not only in other parts of Odisha but also across the world by Odia people or community.
