Lord Jagannath Temple,Chennai

Lord Jagannath is known as The God of the Universe .The holy shrine of Lord Jagannath is located and worshiped in different parts of the world .The temple of Lord Jagannath is located in Kannathur off the EC Road , Chennai.The temple by the seaside is built in Kalinga architecture reminiscent of the Jagannath Temple, Puri.
The temple also has shrines dedicated to Shiva, Ganesh, Bimala.The Rathyatra or the car festival is the main festival celebrated here.The Chennaities can worship the Lord here in Kannathur at Chennai just 1km from ECR road and one stop after Mayajaal.It was built in the year 2001 and the temple just resembles the temple of Lord Jagannath,Puri .Like Puri the idols of Lord Jagannath , Lord Balabhadra , Devi Subhadra and Lord Sudarshana at the shrine are made of neem wood.The shrine is built of black granite originating from Kancheepuram and white marble from Rajasthan. The landscaping around the temple complex covers an area of one acre.
The flowers grown in the garden alone are used for the pooja, which is conducted in Odia style. The priests at the shrine too are from Odisha.The temple also has Pata Chitra paintings on the walls and ceilings, similar to the temples in Odisha , including the depictions of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
