Dola yatra in Odisha : A Photo Story

Dola yatra in Odisha holds significant cultural and religious importance in the state. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm, particularly in the Jagannath Temple in Puri and other regions of the state.

In Odisha, Dola Purnima usually falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Phalguna (February-March), coinciding with the Holi festival. The festival commemorates the divine love of Lord Krishna and Radha. During Dola Purnima, images of Radha and Krishna are placed on beautifully decorated palanquins or chariots and taken out in a procession around the temple or village.

The celebration includes singing devotional songs, chanting hymns, dancing, and throwing colors (similar to Holi). People from all walks of life come together to participate in the festivities, offering prayers and seeking blessings.
