BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy Passes Away Due To COVID-19

BJD leader and Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy was suffering from COVID-19 and were under ventilator support at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar passed away on late Saturday night at about 2.36 am. He was 65.
The legislator had tested positive for COVID-19 on September 14 and was admitted at the SUM Ultimate Medicare in Bhubaneswar. He had been put on ventilator support as his condition reportedly deteriorated on Friday.
Pradeep Maharathy’s mortal remains are expected to be taken to the Vidhan Sabha complex, followed by the BJD office and then to his ancestral home in Pipili of Puri district. His last rites would be performed in Puri Swargadwar later today.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had spoken with his family and wished for Maharathy’s speedy recovery on Saturday. He had also requested the doctor supervising the treatment of Maharathy that the best treatment possible should be ensured for his speedy recovery.
Born on July 4, 1955, at Khorapada in Pipili under Puri district, the seven times MLA from Pipili constituency had started his political career as President of the Student Union in SCS College, Puri. He had been elected as MLA for the first time in 1985 as a member of the erstwhile Janata Party.
During his political career, he had been the Minister of several departments including Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development. He has also been the President of CARD Bank in Puri, Government Deputy Chief Whip in the Assembly, President of Central Cooperative Bank, and President of MARKFED, Odisha.
