Airline Ticket Prices Set to Rise This Holiday Season
Travellers planning to fly during the upcoming holiday season should prepare for higher ticket prices as airlines have already begun increasing fares. This price hike comes in response to the recent rise in jet fuel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs, following an increase by government-owned oil companies on December 1.
While some airlines have already adjusted their prices, others are expected to follow suit soon.
As per reports on a leading daily, Prasanna Pradhan, Director of Bhubaneswar Airport, explained that ticket prices typically depend on demand and supply. He noted that airlines are in the best position to comment on specific fare increases.

Some passangers also expressed concern, saying, “With the price rise, air travel will be out of reach for many people. It might be better to travel by train.”
The recent price increase for ATF is significant: the cost of jet fuel was raised by Rs 1,318.12 per kilolitre, a 1.45% rise, bringing the price to Rs 91,856.84 per kilolitre in New Delhi. Other cities are seeing similar increases, with the price in Mumbai reaching Rs 85,861.02 per kilolitre, up from Rs 84,642.91.
Given the hike in fuel prices, some are calling for reductions in VAT on oil to help ease the burden.
Here are the current ATF prices in four major Indian metro cities:
- Delhi: Rs 91,856.84 per kilolitre
- Kolkata: Rs 94,551.63 per kilolitre
- Mumbai: Rs 85,861.02 per kilolitre
- Chennai: Rs 95,231.49 per kilolitre
