PM Modi at Odisha Parba: Eastern States Now Seen as India’s Growth Engine.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Sunday (November 24, 2024) that his government views India’s eastern region as the Nation’s growth engine, a stark contrast to the past when it was considered backward.
Addressing the audience at the “Odisha Parba” event in New Delhi, the Prime Minister highlighted that investments worth ₹45,000 crore had been approved within the first 100 days of the new government’s formation in the state.
“Odisha has always been a land of seers and scholars. The way scholars here spread our religious texts and connected them to every household has played a crucial role in India’s cultural prosperity,” he stated.
He acknowledged the shift in perspective, saying, “There was a time when India’s eastern region and its states were seen as backward. However, I now view them as the country’s growth engine. This is why we have made the development of this region a priority.”
The Prime Minister also noted the significant increase in the budget allocated to Odisha, mentioning, “The budget we allocate to Odisha is three times higher than what it was a decade ago. This year alone, the budget has increased by 30%.”
Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business in Odisha, sharing that investments of ₹45,000 crore were approved in just 100 days since the formation of the BJP-led government in the state.
He also mentioned the state’s cultural significance, adding, “During last year’s G-20 Summit, we showcased the Sun Temple at Konark. I’m also pleased that all four doors of the Jagannath temple in Puri are now open, and the Ratna Bhandar of the temple has also been unlocked.”
“Odisha Parba” is an annual event organized by the Odia Samaj, a Delhi-based trust that works to preserve and promote Odia heritage. This year, the event, which ran from November 22 to November 24, aimed to showcase Odisha’s vibrant cultural, social, and political heritage.
