Maa Cuttack Chandi 16 Besa 2024: Celebrating the Living Goddess in Cuttack, Odisha. In these duration, the disciples of Goddess Katak Chandi will have darshan of Maa Katak Chandi in various incarnations or Besa. Devotees from across the city comes to visit the temple and have darshan of Goddess.
The Maa Katak Chandi Temple, located near Barabati Stadium by the banks of the Mahanadi River, is one of the oldest temples dedicated to the Goddess Chandi, the presiding deity of Cuttack. The temple is particularly famous for its annual Durga Puja and Kali Puja celebrations, which span 16 days, commencing from the dark fortnight of Ashwina Krishna Ashtami and concluding with Vijayadashami.
Maa Chandi is believed to reside in the heart of this ancient city. She is depicted with four hands, holding a Paasha (noose), Ankusha, and gestures that dispel fear (Abhaya) and grant blessings (Varada). Daily, she is worshipped as Bhuvaneshvari, the queen of the universe, by the Sevayatas of the Utkala Brahmin community.
The Sodasa Puja upachara Besa, or incarnation of the Goddess, begins on Mula Astami and culminates on Durga Astami. Each day, she is honored in a new avatar. Cuttack, known as the millennium city, is also celebrated as the land of Goddess Durga and a Saktipitha.
