‘Olly’ is the mascot for Odisha Hockey World Cup 2018
‘Olly’ the turtle is made the mascot for the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 scheduled to be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Odisha from 18 November to 16 December 2018. Hon’ble Chief Minsiter of Odisha said – “Olly as the official mascot of Hockey World Cup-2018 will be a befitting celebration of Olive Ridley turtles and our strive to conserve their habitat. Odisha welcomes the world as the nesting cove of the Olive Ridley for the world cup,”.
The mascot of Odisha Hockey world Cup 2018 ‘Olly’ represents the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles that travel thousands of miles in the ocean and arrive in millions every year on Odisha’s Rushikulya and Gahirmatha beaches for their annual nesting.
It was also the mascot for Asian Athletics Championships held at the stadium last year.
