Maha Shiva Ratri 2024 – Important Dates. Maha Shivratri is a famous Hindu festival celebrated every yeardedicated of Lord Shiva. The term “Maha Shivratri” translates to “the Great Night of Shiva”. It falls on the 13th night and 14th day of the Hindu lunar month of Phalguna.
Devotees celebrates Maha Shivratri by fasting, performing rituals, and chanting prayers dedicated to Lord Shiva. Many people visit Shiva temples, where they offer prayers, flowers, milk, and water to the Shiv idol or lingam. It is believed that observing Maha Shivratri with devotion and purity brings blessings and fulfillment of desires.

There are various legends associated with Shivratri. One of the most popular stories is that it commemorates the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Hindu History, on this auspicious night, Shiva and Parvati were united in a divine marriage ceremony.
Another legend suggests that Shivratri marks the day when Lord Shiva performed the Tandava, the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction.
