Samaleswari Temple located in Sambalpur district of Odisha.Goddess Samaleswari the presiding deity in the temple . The temple is the most famous temple in western part of Odisha and Chhattisgarh state of India. The temple is situated On the bank of the river Mahanadi.
Maa Salameswari is worshiped from ancient times as Jagatjanani, Adishakti, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati. The region where temple is located holds a rich cultural heritage. Sambalpur region is popularly known as Hirakhanda from ancient times. The temple is of Sandhara order. It is built of a kind of stone durable as granite, cemented with lime mortar, the whole building is plastered, but in the course of time the surface has become moldy. The temple comprises two separate structures.Eleven parswa devis (side Goddess), are embedded on the outer wall of the sanctum, so that the devotees can worship those deities. Apart from Goddess Samaleswari Temple , the city is also famous for many other tourist attractions like Hirakud Dam , Huma Temple , Chipilima , Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary,Cattle Island , Ghanteswari Temple and others .
