BJP’s Mohan Charan Majhi to Be Next Odisha Chief Minister

Mohan Charan Majhi, a four-time MLA, has been chosen as the new Chief Minister of Odisha by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Majhi emerged victorious in the Keonjhar assembly seat during the recently concluded Odisha assembly elections, defeating Biju Janata Dal’s Mina Majhi by a margin of 11,577 votes. KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida have been named as deputy Chief Ministers.

The announcement of Majhi as the leader of the BJP’s legislature party was made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This decision comes in the wake of the BJP’s decisive victory over Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal, securing 78 out of 147 seats in the Odisha assembly.

As the BJP prepares to form its first-ever government in Odisha, they have extended an invitation to BJD president and outgoing chief minister Naveen Patnaik for the swearing-in ceremony, which is scheduled for June 12.

Final preparations are underway at the Janata Maidan, the venue for the oath-taking ceremony. The event is expected to see attendance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Jual Oram, and other Central Ministers, and Chief Ministers from various BJP-ruled states.

In light of the swearing-in ceremony, the Odisha Government has announced that all state government offices and courts in Bhubaneswar will close at 1 pm on Wednesday.
