Basanti Durga Puja Cuttack
Basanti Durga Puja Cuttack. Unlike the autumn version of Durga Puja, this spring festival has separate names,like Basanti Durga Puja or Ashoka Astami. While the summer is at it’s peak with the introducing heat for the season,Cuttack gears up for Puja. Be it summer or winter Katkis never leave chance when it comes for celebration.
Though the festive is not celebrated in all Puja mandaps across the city but is celebrated with the same charm as in Dussehera in october.
To get back their lost kingdoms , King Surath and Samadhi Vaishya was adviced to perform Basanti Durga Puja by Medha Muni.King Surath and Samadhi Vaishya did as they were told and had their kingdoms and pride restored. This possibly started the ritual of Basanti Durga as mentioned in Markanda Puran.
