Odisha Government Increases Material Costs for Midday Meals under PM Poshan Scheme
Odisha Government Increases Material Costs for Midday Meals under PM Poshan Scheme.
The Odisha Government has announced a hike in the material costs for midday meals in schools, effective December 1, 2024, under the PM Poshan Scheme. The revised cost for primary school students (Class I-IV) will now be Rs 7.64, up from Rs 5.90, while for upper primary students (Class V-VIII), the cost has been increased to Rs 10.94 from Rs 7.64.
According to an official statement, the increase in material costs is based on prevailing market prices and the availability of seasonal vegetables. Schools will be expected to manage their expenditures within the revised cost limits, with the flexibility to adjust the menu based on available ingredients, as long as the average cost does not exceed the specified amounts.
This revision follows a demand from the All Utkal Primary Teachers Association for an increase in the Midday Meal cost. The last revision of meal costs was made in October 2022.
