According to Mamata Banarjee, the idol of Lord Jagannath will be as large as Puri’s”. The chief minister of West Bengal visited an old Jagannath temple on Old Digha beach where district officials presented a plan to transform the shrine into the bigger structure.
The temple of the God of the Universe will be built at an estimated cost of Rs.2.24 Crore and in an area of 2 acres of land.
According to some researchers, the move by West Bengal Government to construct a Jagannath temple at Digha is a welcome initiative. But if its design is similar to that of Srimandir in Puri, Odisha must raise its objection.
