Odia New Year, also known as “Pana Sankranti” or “Maha Vishuba Sankranti”, is celebrated in the Indian state of Odisha, which falls on the first day of the month of Baisakha (mostly falls on 14 or 15 April, every year). It marks the beginning of the agricultural year in Odisha and is a time to welcome new beginnings and pray for good fortune and prosperity.

On the New year, people take a special drink called “Pana” made from a mixture of Bel (Aegle marmelos), milk, water, sugar, and various fruits and spices. People of Odisha, also prepare traditional delicacies such as “Pitha” and “Manda Pitha” and offer them deities. People also clean their houses and decorate them with flowers and colorful rangolis.
